Dog grooming loyalty card: pets, appointments and rewards

A dog grooming loyalty card works when the rule says what earns a stamp: a completed groom, not a booking, and whether two dogs belonging to the same owner earn one stamp or two. With Iterum owners open the card from a QR code without an app, and staff confirm the visit in the counter app when they hand the dog back.

How a dog grooming loyalty card works

A loyalty card for a dog groomer records the return visits of owners who bring their dog or cat in regularly and, after the target you choose, entitles them to a reward. Compared with a café there are few visits, usually weeks apart, and every appointment concerns a particular animal, whose size and coat change the time and the price.

The owner opens the card on their phone from the QR code at reception or from a link you send them. When the animal is collected, with the service finished and paid for, an authorised member of staff scans the card’s QR code or types its code in the counter app and confirms the visit. Iterum does not read your appointment diary or your till: it counts the visits staff confirm under your rule.

  1. Write down what earns a stamp

For example: «one stamp for every full groom, bath and dry included». It is an example to adapt, not a recommended rule.

  2. Offer the card at drop-off

While the owner leaves the dog there is time to scan the QR code; at collection, lead in hand, there is less.

  3. Stamp when you hand the animal back

Once the service is complete and paid for, staff confirm the visit on the owner’s card.

  4. Record the reward

Once the target is reached, staff check the rule, offer the reward on the next appointment and record the redemption.

One card per owner or one per pet?

In Iterum the card belongs to the customer, meaning the owner, not to an individual animal. If a household brings two dogs, the rule has to say what happens when they come in together. There are two choices: one stamp per visit, however many animals, or one stamp for each animal groomed.

In the card settings you choose a minimum interval between two stamps on the same card, from 1 minute to 24 hours. With a 24-hour interval the rule «one stamp per visit» enforces itself even if staff try to stamp twice; with a short interval, say 1 minute, staff can record the second dog’s stamp shortly after the first. If there are many combinations, a points card is simpler: one point per animal groomed, or one point per euro spent.

How often do grooming clients come back? Targets and timings

Choose the card’s target from the interval between two grooms, which depends on the coat, the season and the owner’s habits: ask your regular clients rather than guessing. With visits every six weeks, a 10-stamp card takes more than a year to complete; a 6-stamp card about 36 weeks.

With long targets the reward’s validity matters too. In Iterum you choose how long an earned reward stays valid from the moment the customer earns it: no expiry, or 30, 60, 90, 180 or 365 days. With clients who come back every two months, a 30-day validity would let the reward lapse before the next visit.

Small dog or large dog: is the stamp worth the same?

A bath for a toy poodle and a full groom for a large double-coated dog take very different amounts of time and cost very different amounts. On a stamp card every completed visit earns one stamp, whatever the size: it is the easiest rule to explain and works when the reward is a light service that is the same for everyone.

If you want the reward to follow the work done, use a points card: you decide what a point is worth, for example one point per euro, and staff type it in the counter app from the amount paid. Iterum converts nothing and does not read the till. For services you do not want to reward, such as a nail trim on its own, say so in the conditions.

How much does dog grooming cost in Italy? August 2026 prices

In August 2026 the average price of grooming a dog ranged from 20.48 euros in Naples to 42.37 euros in Genoa, across the six large Italian cities where the item «toilette cani» (dog grooming) is surveyed by the Italian government’s price observatory (Osservatorio Prezzi e Tariffe, MIMIT), which publishes price levels processed by Istat; Rome averaged 35.20 euros, with prices recorded between 30 and 40 euros. In Milan, Florence and Bari the item does not appear that month.

These are one month’s figures, not a ranking: the observatory advises against using these levels to compare different cities or months, and the item does not specify the size of the animal or the type of service. Use them to put a realistic value on the reward: a free groom is worth a whole appointment to the customer.

Grooming and pet shop: one card or two?

Many groomers also sell food, treats and accessories. Shop purchases follow a different rhythm from appointments: a bag of kibble a month against a groom every six weeks. Mixing them on one stamp card puts the reward too close for frequent buyers and too far away for everyone else.

In Iterum a stamp card and a points card can run side by side in the same business, within your plan’s number of active cards: for example stamps for grooms and points for shop purchases. If your plan allows one active card, choose the one that covers the most important part of your work. Each plan’s limits are on the pricing page.

Which reward should a dog groomer give clients?

The most appreciated reward is a service for the animal, worded precisely: «a free bath and dry, dogs up to 10 kg» avoids an awkward conversation with the Newfoundland’s owner. A full free groom on a 6-stamp card gives back about 14% of the value of seven identical visits; a smaller service costs less and can be offered more often.

More ideas, and what they cost, are in the guide to loyalty card reward ideas, and the reward cost calculator redoes the sum with your prices. If you are thinking of a gift other than your own services and products, first read the loyalty card rules in Italy.

What the card does not do: diary, reminders and health

A loyalty card is not a booking diary: Iterum does not manage appointments, does not send reminders for the next groom and does not read bookings or cancellations. Nor is it a veterinary tool: no health reminders, records or advice about the animal go through the card.

You can write to clients who have given consent, within the plan’s monthly message limit per location, for example to announce summer opening hours. Keep it for useful, infrequent messages; what you may send, and with which consent, is explained in the guide loyalty card GDPR.

How to set up your dog grooming loyalty card with Iterum

With Iterum you prepare the card before paying: in the card designer you set the design, the number of visits and the reward, and see a preview; you choose the minimum interval between two stamps later in the card’s settings, from the dashboard. The pet grooming demo design shows made-up data: it is not a real customer or a result.

The owner opens the card from the QR code or a link and uses it in the browser, with no app or password; by adding it they accept the card Terms and confirm they have read the privacy notice, with no box to tick; on supported devices they can add it to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Whoever works in the salon confirms visits in the counter app on a phone or computer; every team member can have their own account. An internet connection is needed.

The 7-day free trial starts with €0 to pay today; a payment card is required to activate it and, unless you cancel, the selected plan continues after the trial. Every step is described in how Iterum works.

Sources and method

Sources consulted on 11 October 2026: Osservatorio Prezzi e Tariffe, Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT), archive of monthly price surveys for everyday goods and services (in Italian), type «Servizi», item «Toilette cani», August 2026 (the latest month published), one page for each of nine large provinces, six of them with the figure.

Intervals, targets and shares given back are hypothetical calculations with the same service on every visit, not data collected from real groomers. The information about Iterum describes the product as of 11 October 2026, as shown on its public pages and in the dashboard, and does not promise more appointments or more sales. Iterum is loyalty card software and has no connection with the observatory.

Frequently asked questions

Two dogs with the same owner: one card or two?
The Iterum card belongs to the owner. Decide whether two dogs on the same visit earn one stamp or two: with a 24-hour minimum interval they earn one; with a short interval staff can confirm two. Alternatively, use points.
Is the stamp given at booking or after the groom?
After the service is completed and paid for, when the animal is handed back. Iterum does not read the diary: staff confirm the visit in the counter app under the rule written on the card.
Can I reward large dogs more?
With a points card, yes: you decide what a point is worth, for example one point per euro, and staff type the points. On a stamp card every visit earns one stamp, whatever the size of the dog.
Does the card remind clients about their next appointment?
No. Iterum does not manage appointments or reminders. You can write to clients who have given consent, within the plan’s monthly message limit, for useful messages such as summer opening hours.
How much does it cost to try Iterum at a dog groomer’s?
The trial lasts 7 days and you pay €0 today; a payment card is required to activate it. The price of the selected plan is shown before you confirm, and the plan continues after the trial unless you cancel.
